Daryl Hall & John Oates have rolled out their full North American summer itinerary. The duo kicks things off on August 15th in Canandaigua, New York at Marvin Sands PAC, and winds the 16-city trek on September 28th in Thackerville, Oklahoma at WinStar World Casino.
The main moneymaker these days for Hall & Oates — who remain the most successful duo in rock history — is still their live shows. John Oates told us that it's through their concerts, that he and Hall hope to showcase their life's work: ["The future of Hall & Oates still lies in its past. And what I mean by that it, the depths of our catalogue is so interesting that I don't think a lot of people truly understand how much music we made and how interesting it could be. So, we want to start introducing our deep tracks to our older audience and our newer audience. And that's kind of a focus for us. Y'know, sure, of course, we'll play the hits — we have a (laughs) personal, y'know, commercial responsibility to do that — and we'll always do that. But I think there's a lot of music we can make that will almost seem like it's new — even though it's not. So that, I think, is where Hall & Oates is going."] SOUNDCUE (:34 OC: . . . Oates is going)
Despite years of success on such major labels as Atlantic, RCA, and Arista; Hall & Oates — both together and apart — view themselves now as indie artists. Daryl Hall says he is more than happy to see the music industry slowly implode after years of living high on the hog at the expense of its artists. He was asked if there's anything positive happening for longtime recording acts: ["No. The only good thing about what's happening in the music business is that it's so bad that it's got to change. That's the one light at the end of a very dark tunnel. It can't go on the way it is — it can't be run the way it's run. It's eventually going to fall apart, and it's already in the process of falling apart. I can't wait for it to happen."] SOUNDCUE (:15 OC: . . . it to happen)
Hall & Oates launch their European tour on July 2nd in Madrid, Spain.
