James Taylor and Bonnie Raitt have just announced a dozen spring Canadian dates — and one U.S. stadium show — with the remainder of the 2020 run to be announced early next year. The trek will feature guest artists Brandi Carlile and Shawn Colvin. Taylor posted on social media that tickets for the run go on sale today (December 3rd), with every ticket including a CD or digital download of his upcoming album due out early next year.

As it stands now, "JT" and Raitt will kick off the coast-to-coast run on April 14th in Victoria, BC at Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre, and play through May 5th in St. John’s, NL at Mile One Centre. Also on the books is a June 21st gig at Boston's Fenway Park.

James Taylor explained to us that he's not the type of songwriter who can just bang out an album over a couple of week's worth of writing sessions: ["They sort of come through me, and I, and I wait for them to show up. I can do things that help them show up  — usually sitting down playing the guitar, so, my guitar technique is central to it. I’m not. . . I don’t read music, I don’t write it, so I, sit down and basically wander around on the guitar until something starts to present itself."] SOUNDCUE (:19 OC: . . . to present itself)

Bonnie Raitt's live shows have always been the stuff of legend. She told us a while back that revamping her setlists comes part and parcel with being a dynamic concert performer: ["A lot of it is just moving things around in the set and pulling things out of the hat that I haven't played in a long time. And I don't want to give away the surprises, but I've unearthed some gems from a long time that even I haven't played in 25 years. So, it's really spontaneous and a lot of it depends on the spirit of the audience."] SOUNDCUE (:14 OC: . . . of the audience)

James Taylor will next perform on December 9th at Manhattan's Beacon Theatre for Sting and wife Trudie Styler's 17th benefit concert for their Rainforest Fund. Also appearing will be Bruce Springsteen, John Mellencamp, and the Eurythmics, among others.
