ZZ Top is heading out on the road for an extended summer and fall run in celebration of the band's 50th anniversary. Joining the band on the road for most of the dates will be old friends Cheap Trick, with the trek launching on August 16th in Ridgefield, Washington at Sunlight Supply Amphitheatre and wrapping on October 20th at West Palm Beach, Florida's Coral Sky Amphitheatre. Billy Gibbons reflected on ZZ Top's incredible career, and said, “It’s been five decades, and I think we’re starting to get pretty good at all this! We’re truly excited to be appearing across the continent this summer and fall, playing our bluesy kind of rock like we started in ’69. The beards, Frank's excepted, are perhaps a bit longer, yet nothing else has changed. We're keeping it that way.”

It's been over 35 years after ZZ Top's MTV era-defining Eliminator album, which featured such instant band classics as “Gimme All Your Lovin',” “Sharp Dressed Man,” and “Legs.” We asked guitarist Billy Gibbons how the band was able to embrace the 1980's while staying true to themselves musically: “Yeah, well as the old saying goes: 'One foot in the blues.' It keeps it honest and kinda straight ahead. We can narrow the range — take it far left, far right; let's go back to step one — the blues.”

Guitarist Rick Nielsen believes the secret to Cheap Trick's longevity is that in an era when bands became so huge so quickly, they were able to retain their fan base while still working regularly: “I think we're a lot of people's fifth favorite band. They might not like everything we do, but they respect the fact of, y'know, the hard work, and, y'know, we've had ups and we've had downs, and guess what — we keep getting back up.”
